Bluesky blocks DDoSecrets links following DHS employee data breach

Social network Bluesky has begun flagging links to the nonprofit DDoSecrets as malicious, effectively preventing users from accessing a leaked dataset containing information on 40,000 Department of Homeland Security employees. The move follows reports that a hacker compromised sensitive records, including contact details for agents at CBP and ICE.

The leaked information, described as similar to data found on standard business cards, has become a focal point for transparency advocates. DDoSecrets co-founder Emma Best maintains that the files contain only professional contact information, arguing that this data is essential for citizens filing Freedom of Information Act requests. Conversely, a Bluesky spokesperson stated that the material violates community guidelines regarding the distribution of private contact information.

Simultaneously, the federal government is intensifying efforts to suppress the leak. Homeland Security has engaged the security vendor ZeroFox to issue formal takedown notices, leading to the suspension of a search site created by journalist maia arson crimew. Internet records indicate the domain was placed on serverHold by its registrar, CentralNic, following the department's demand to remove the non-consensual publication of employee details. Despite these efforts, crimew has made a locally hosted version of the data available, ensuring the information remains accessible for independent download.
