Apple says more than 100,000 apps now support iPhone Duo
More than 100,000 apps built for Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo are now available on the App Store, the company said Friday, with thousands more added daily. The announcement came alongside updates to more than a dozen prominent apps, as developers continue adapting software to the device’s unusual screen.
Early reviews criticized the Duo’s limited selection of apps optimized for its display. Apps that have not been adapted can show a black bar along the side, wasting screen space, or place functions in an overflow menu.
Newly highlighted updates include Microsoft Word and Outlook, Zoom, apps from the NBA and NHL, Etsy, LTK, Goodnotes, Extra and the Halide Mark III camera app. They join previously optimized apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Apple said more than 2,000 app developers attended over 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities worldwide, where they could use the Duo and work on their apps with Apple’s support. Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said the company was grateful for developers’ “creativity and innovation” and pleased to see updates accelerating.
The device starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model. It sold out within hours of orders opening, and delivery estimates have moved into next year. On its earnings call this week, Apple said it was “hard to predict” when supply constraints causing the delays would ease.
Apple also named a wider group of apps updated for iOS 27 and optimized for the Duo, including Spotify, Facebook Messenger, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Excel, PowerPoint, The Washington Post, Canva, Tinder, Google Translate, Strava, Tesla Robotaxi, Priceline, Kroger and Domino’s. Some updates have not fully rolled out: Spotify still showed a black bar, and the App Store did not list an update on the review device. The publication said it expected the listed updates to arrive soon, citing Apple’s list.
