Anthropic secures $45 billion compute deal with Nscale
Anthropic has committed to a $45 billion agreement for AI computing power from British infrastructure firm Nscale. The six-year partnership centers on Nvidia’s advanced Vera Rubin chip systems, with capacity slated to come online in late 2027 from a flagship data center currently under development in West Virginia.
The West Virginia project is the latest in a rapid sequence of massive capital outlays by Anthropic. Within the last eight months, the company has finalized a $10 billion supply deal with Norwegian startup Volta, a $5 billion commitment to AMD, and a substantial arrangement with SpaceX. These partnerships supplement existing capacity expansions with Amazon, Google, and Broadcom. As the competition against rivals like OpenAI intensifies, Anthropic is prioritizing long-term access to proprietary hardware to maintain its competitive edge.
